Tobacco Free Hall County (TFHC) is a local, proactive tobacco education and prevention coalition in Grand Island/Hall County, Nebraska, which was formed in the fall of 1994. Coalition members and affiliated agencies participate in tobacco education, prevention and other countywide activities and projects. Tobacco Free Hall County collaborates with various agencies, organizations, citizens and students engaging in a multitude of activities.

Through these collaborative efforts, we are mindful of racial, social, economic and gender disparities in our education and prevention messages.

TFHC coalition members meet the 4th Tuesday of the month with like-minded clean-air advocates in the CNCAA board room at 219 West 2nd Street, Grand Island, NE.

VISION STATEMENT

Affiliates of Tobacco Free Hall County envision a future free of tobacco.

OUR MISSION

The mission of Tobacco Free Hall County is to promote healthy lives free of tobacco in all its forms. Coalition members and affiliates know that all forms of tobacco products interfere with healthy lifestyles and harm both users and those near the users. They also know that tobacco use often leads to the use of other drugs.

STRATEGIES

Tobacco Free Hall County focuses its efforts on supporting tobacco free environments in which youth and families can grow and prosper.

Emphasis is placed on eliminating secondhand smoke in child and youth-oriented environments such as daycare centers, schools, and recreational facilities.

Tobacco Free Hall County believes that a healthy community is tobacco free, including elimination of secondhand smoke in all public places.

Currently, emphasis is being placed on child and youth environments as well as those locations where the health-impaired and elderly live and frequent.

Through a strong presence in the community in support of tobacco-free lifestyles, Coalition members and affiliates advocate for:

-Elimination of secondhand smoke exposure through policy development
-Preventing initiation of smoking, particularly in youth
-Cessation of smoking in youth and adults
-Prevention of disease and death that results from the use and exposure to tobacco in all its forms
